Interactive The first website I found was Illuminations. This website could be used for any level of math; they have activities for kindergartners to high school students. When looking at this site I focused on the grade 9-12 activities. The activities were great I tried out some of them, they really made you think, and they were pretty fun at the same time. The site was very user friendly and some of the activities were very colorful. I would use this site in the classroom a lot I would have them use it with the lesson I was teaching, for example, I would use the Congruence Theorem activity when I was teaching my class about congruent triangles. Over all I loved this site, I liked the way it made math fun and how easy to use it was. http://illuminations.nctm.org/ActivitySearch.aspx
Interactive The second website I found was called Interactive. This website was also another great interactive site for high school math students. The activities that I looked at were wonderful. My favorite was all of the graphing activities they have. They were easy to use and a great way to help students visualize the equation that they are working with; it would also help them check if they are graphing it correctly. I would have students use this in the classroom when we learning about graphing. http://www.shodor.org/interactivate/
Informational- Student Use The third website I found was called Quickie Math! This website was more of an informational site for students. The reason I liked it so much was that it explained to the students where geometry is used in real life. One of the biggest questions math teachers get asked when am I going to use this in real life, and this website gives them examples. It also has a place where it shows pictures of every day this and points out the geometry in them. I would use this website in class to help answer the students question of when are they ever going to use math. http://library.thinkquest.org/C006354/
Informational- Student Use The fourth website I found was called OnlineMathLearning.com. This website explained about the three types of triangles. I would use this website to give my high school geometry students a preview of triangles. I would make it their homework to read the page and to watch the videos they have on there. This website does a great way of describing the types of triangles and how to figure out the sides and angles of each type of triangle. http://www.onlinemathlearning.com/types-of-triangles.html
Informational- Student Use The fifth website I found was called Lesson on Graphing Functions. This website talked all about how to graph algebra functions. I would have students read this web page before they start to graph functions. I like the points and advice that they give to the students about graphing equations and how to make a good graph. I would also have them read the next page about advanced graphing because they make more graphing points. http://www.algebra.com/algebra/lessons/graphing/
Teacher Site The sixth site I found was different from the other five sites that I looked at. It was a part of the Buffalo State math website. It is a weeklong lesson plan about graphing linear equations. I like that it breaks down every part of the lesson plan and what I should be doing with the students and what I need. I also love the fact that it incorporates the graphing calculators because that it is very important for students to learn to use graphing calculators. Graphing calculators are becoming a huge part of teaching and learning math so for a student to know how to use a graphing calculator is extremely important. http://math.buffalostate.edu/~it/projects/swiech.pdf
Informational- Student Use The seventh website I found was called Math is Fun! This website site was about sine, cosine, and tangent. I would have my students read this website to get an overview to how to use sine, cosine, and tangent. They also have problems on the page that I would have the students do and turn in the next day. I also like the fact that that they talk about SOHCAHTOA because it really helped me when I me remember how to do them. It is also great because the colorful pictures really help catch students’ attention. http://www.mathsisfun.com/sine-cosine-tangent.html
Informational- Student Use The eighth website I looked at was called Bowman’s Website. This website is all about trigonometry ratios (sine, cosine, and tangent). I would have students read this website and look at all of the examples that they have. I like how this website explains it and the many examples that they have. Examples are extremely important for students to see example because that is how they learn. This website would be very beneficial for students to look at. http://rchsbowman.wordpress.com/2010/02/09/geometry-notes-%E2%80%93-trigonometry-sine-cosine-and-tangent-ratios/
Informational- Student Use The ninth website I looked at was called Purplemath. This website was about straight-line equations and slope intercept form. I would use this site when teaching slope intercept form in a high school geometry class. This website is good because it really explains how to figure out the slope, parallel, and perpendicular lines. It also gives many examples and goes through it step by step. Slope intercept form will be used throughout life and will be built on in all the higher algebra classes, so learning it will be extremely important. http://www.purplemath.com/modules/strtlneq.htm
Informational and Interactive Student- Use The last website I looked at was called Math Worksheets Go. This web page has a graphing calculator on it. I think this is good because even though most students will have a graphing calculator, they are not able to save that graph and this way they can save it onto their computer. I would have my algebra students this graphing calculator tool so if they ever have to look at a graph on their homework they can see use this and then save it so that I know for sure that they did look at the graph and this way they could even print it out. I think this webpage would be great to use in and out of the classroom. http://www.mathworksheetsgo.com/tools/free-online-graphing-calculator.php
